In her strategic effort to help alleviate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in the African continent, the Nigerian government has donated medical supplies worth over 67 million naira to Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe.
The medical supplies donated to the central Africa country includes: units of test kits, extraction kits, infrared thermometers and personal protective equipment which will be used to test up to 20,000 residents in Sao Tome and Principe.
The donation is based on the request of the government of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe for the assistance of Nigeria to donate medical equipment to assist in the ongoing efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the country.”
Geoffrey Onyeama, Hounorable Minister of Foreign Affairs who was represented by Mr. TukurMaigari, Acting Head of ECAAD, while presenting the consignment, noted that the two African brothers share a marine border which necessitated the establishment of the Nigeria-Sao Tome Joint Development Authority (JDA) for exploration of natural hydrocarbon resources for the benefit of both countries.
The Honourable Minister further reiterated Nigeria’s position to cooperate and remain on friendly terms with all nations that recognize and respect its sovereignty.
DjazaldeAgujar, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sao Tome and Principe in Nigeria, thanked the Nigeria government for its timely intervention in the country’s fight against COVID-19.
Expressing high expectation on the bilateral relations between the two countries, the Charge d’ Affaires said: “This is just an example, but we hope and we trust that it will enhance the cooperation and the friendship of our two peoples and our countries”.
